To encourage the
historic preservation and restoration of lighthouse, lightship and
lifesaving station artifacts and documents throughout America, while
endeavoring to foster and support local lighthouse initiatives and
organizations through public information and advisory services; and to
improve public awareness and appreciation of and access to all of America's
lighthouses.
In the Present...
The
American Lighthouse Foundation's (ALF) short-term goals are to prevent
the further loss and deterioration to historic lighthouses under the
direct control of the organization and to garner public and private
sector support to effectively sustain and grow such lighthouse
preservation measures. In addition, ALF is seeking to enhance the
educational and cultural value associated with the Museum of Lighthouse
History and striving to integrate “Kids on the Beam” – a unique learning
initiative centered on our nation’s lighthouse history, within student
curriculum and throughout the lighthouse community’s youth members.
Long Term Goals
The long-term
goals of the American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF) are to build an
organizational infrastructure capable of sustaining lighthouse
preservation and education for future generations of Americans and to
continue the strategic acquisition of historic lighthouses for
preservation and educational purposes. ALF also endeavors to enhance the
educational and marketing components associated with successful
lighthouse preservation by consistently cultivating a greater
understanding and appreciation with young and old alike for the value of
saving, preserving and interpreting America’s rich lighthouse heritage
in the present and future.
