Lighthouse Float a Surprise

 

 
 

“Our hearts were beating with excitement as we saw the float carrying the model of Little River Lighthouse approach us,” said Tim Harrison, who along with other lighthouse volunteers, were anxiously waiting to see the lighthouse float for the first time at Cutler Maine’s Annual 4th of July Parade.

 

Little River Lighthouse is located in the harbor, on an island, a short distance from the mainland in the Village of Cutler, a small fishing community in ‘Downeast’ Maine,  “Where it is next to impossible to keep a secret, so we knew about the lighthouse float, but we didn’t know what it was going to look like,

Attached to the front of the truck that was pulling the Little River Lighthouse float was a large

banner promoting the Friends of Little River Lighthouse and the American Lighthouse Foundation.

the model of the lighthouse.

 

from 1968 to 1970, made the float.  During the parade, some of the children rode on the float and others walked behind it while handing out membership and donation brochures for the lighthouse. Directly behind the float, were ATVs, made to look like lobster boats being guided from the beacon in the tower of the lighthouse.
