The restored keeper’s house at Little River Lighthouse in
Cutler, which will soon be opening up for overnight visits, now has a
new ‘homey’ look in some of its rooms thanks to a generous donation by
Glenn Price and his son Austin.
When Price of Parsonsfield, Maine, read that the Friends
of Little River Lighthouse, a chapter of the American Lighthouse
Foundation, were looking for braided rugs to help decorate the keeper’s
house at Little River, he immediately knew he could help

contacted the
group and offered three antique braided rugs to them.
The rugs were made about 35 or 40 years ago by Price’s grandmother and are
in excellent condition. He had been looking for a good home for them.
Price got interested in lighthouses a number of years ago after reading Bill
Caldwell’s book, Lighthouses of Maine, and ever since he and his son
started on a quest to visit every Maine lighthouse, a task they are getting
close to completing.

Price said he had been following the restoration of
Little River Lighthouse through stories in Lighthouse Digest Magazine
and was looking for a way to help. He said that he and his family were
honored to donate them to such a great cause.
The donation was made even more special when Tim Harrison
and Hal Biering, co-chairs of the Friends, gave him and his son a ride
to the lighthouse and they
helped lay the rugs in place. As they all sat around in the living room of
the keeper’s house they commented on how great the largest of the rugs
looked. He now knew he had found a good home for them and his grandmother
would be proud.
