As the Work Season Winds Down at Little River
Light, Volunteers Push Forward Harder than Ever
With
autumn fast approaching, volunteers at Little River Light Station are
making a concerted effort to accomplish as much work as possible before
the season comes to a close in the next month or so. During the week of
August 15th, the American Lighthouse Foundation and its
volunteers tackled a variety of projects that included interior restoration
work to the hardwood floors, wooden banister and trim work of the former
keeper’s dwelling. In addition, professional tradesmen continued to work
on the reinstallation of the

dwelling’s
electrical and plumbing components.
As work
was occurring on the interior, the exterior of the keeper’s house and the
surrounding landscape were being paid attention to by volunteers as well.
Crews continued to work on reestablishing the lawn at the light station by
removing huge boulders from the yard, as well as mowing and trimming the
wild grass in front of the keeper’s house and light tower. Professional
plumbers and carpenters worked to reestablish a well at the site and repair
deterioration to the clapboard exterior of the keeper’s dwelling
respectively.

volunteers will continue their “race against time” as they work to complete

ushers in
much cooler temperatures and rougher seas. However, in addition to the
ongoing need for volunteers to help wrap-up the work in 2005, the
American Lighthouse Foundation also needs the financial support of the
lighthouse community to help provide the volunteers with much needed
supplies and materials
so they can
continue their passionate work. Please consider joining the dedicated
volunteers at Little River by physically lending a hand to the project or
just as importantly, contributing a generous donation to help restore the
lighthouse back to its former glory. Immense progress has been made, but
more work needs done – we cannot do it without you!
