The restored
Little River Lighthouse in Cutler, Maine hosted its first known wedding
on the island since the lighthouse station was established in 1847.
On a picture
perfect day this past July 3, Amy Harvey and Rob Gaudet, both of
Baileyville, Maine, were married on the rocky shores of the island
within feet of the light

tower overlooking
the great Atlantic Ocean.
The wedding was
attended by many family members and friends who were transported to and from
the island lighthouse is a variety of boats, including a local lobster boat
owned by Trevor Jessiman of Cutler.
The bride, Amy
Harvey said, “We wanted to get married by the ocean, but we wanted a special
place, and we thought an island lighthouse would be the perfect location to
start our lives together.”
The biggest
challenge faced by the Friends of Little River Lighthouse was getting the
tiered wedding cake to the island. As it was being carefully transported to
the island on the station’s boat, a gust of wind came up and

blew off the
plastic covering, taking with it some of cake’s frosting. But repairs to
the cake were quickly made on the island and everyone had a good laugh
about it.
After the
wedding, the bride and groom attended a reception with family and
friends on the island’s picnic tables. Most of them also enjoyed a climb
to the top of the tower, toured the restored keeper’s house and hiked
the island’s trails.
Tim Harrison of
the Friends group said. “We’ve had lots of honeymoon couples spend the night
here. In fact, the night before the wedding, we hosted a honeymoon couple
from Chicago who were leaving the island as the wedding party arrived. But,
this is the first wedding we have hosted on the island and volunteers of the
Friends had as much fun as did the bride, groom and guests.”
