Hadley Volunteerism Award’ for their dedicated volunteer contributions
in 2009.
FRBL cares for both Maine’s Rockland Breakwater and Owls Head lighthouses.
Ms. Allison was recognized for her volunteer efforts at Owls Head Light.
According to Eric Davis, FRBL vice-chair and volunteer
coordinator, “Ginger was a consistent and reliable docent at Owls Head
Light’s first year of being open to the public on a regular basis in 2009.”
“She volunteered for nearly a third of the days that the
lighthouse was open, from the middle of July to Columbus Day weekend in
October. Ginger’s outgoing personality serves her and the chapter well as a
greeter to the public and a conveyor of Owls Head Light’s storied history.”
“Ginger also has extended herself beyond Owls Head Light and
volunteers at our sister light, Rockland Breakwater, for a new Monday
evening tour in connection with one of the local schooners, as well as
filling in when short a volunteer for a given shift – doing this after
already volunteering 4 hours at another local non-profit.”
“In her ‘rookie’ season, she proved herself adept at handling
both a visitor panic attack up in the tower and a visit by a group of
ghost-busters wanting to set up shop for an overnight at the lighthouse –
very interesting if not humorous stories when she tells them!”
“For her dedication to Owls
Head and Rockland Breakwater lighthouses, and her enthusiasm in sharing
lighthouse history with others, Ginger Allison is selected to receive the
2009 Len Hadley Volunteerism Award.”
