ALF / FPPL Work to Keep Pemaquid Point Light Standing Strong

 

 
 

On May 17, 2006 the American Lighthouse Foundation and its chapter – the Friends of Pemaquid Point Light, met with representatives from J.B. Leslie Masonry Company of South Berwick, Maine, to examine the historic tower’s exterior and interior in an effort to identify trouble spots causing water to penetrate the structure.

masonry joints of the 1835 tower, which would include removing layers of whitewash and paint down to clean granite on the exterior in order to accomplish the project. In addition, an examination was made of the underside of the lantern where it meets the tower, the lantern itself, the interior brick lining, windows and frames.

 

The American Lighthouse Foundation will be obtaining a scope of work for the restoration project – along with the cost estimate to facilitate the

project. Once this information is in hand, ALF will then take the opportunity to consult with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, ensuring that the proposed work meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservation.

profile restoration of White Island Lighthouse in the Isles of Shoals during the summer of 2005 and has over 30 years of experience in masonry, including historic masonry restoration.
