received ALF’s
prestigious “Len Hadley Volunteerism Award” during the third annual
volunteer dinner.
Caren Clark,
treasurer for the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, represented the
chapter and spoke of how Bob was a deserved recipient of ALF’s “Len Hadley
Volunteerism Award” for his outstanding dedication to their project.
Bob himself was
unable to be in attendance but that did not stop the audience from giving
his efforts a resounding applause at the conclusion of Ms. Clark’s remarks.
Caren Clark of
the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse made the following remarks about
Bob Kline’s volunteer efforts during the ALF awards presentation on
11/22/08:
“Bob has been a
dedicated volunteer ever since the chapter was formed in 2003. The list of

Lighthouse
is a long and vital one. He puts his heart into everything he does,
while managing all of the light’s maintenance needs and plans for
volunteer work list each spring.
Bob also
handles our special openings for events like weddings or groups, and he

even goes as far
as providing information on where to stay, who can take photos, and provides
witnesses.
He came to the
rescue this fall when our lock broke on the lighthouse entrance door,
necessitating a temporary lock to be put in place. Bob made special
arrangements to get the tower opened each day for our volunteers and
visitors, while he worked to obtain a replacement lock that was compatible
with the existing keys from the old lock.
One of our
donation gifts at the lighthouse is a colorized Maine state quarter, which
is specially packaged and contains a stamp stating, ‘Direct from Pemaquid
tower.’ Bob obtains our inventory of quarters from the supplier, and then
packages, stamps and delivers them to the tower as needed.
He also receives
the donations at the end of each day and recounts them to verify the
docent’s accuracy. Each week he then submits the donations to |

the treasurer
for deposit purposes. Even when he is traveling, Bob goes out of his way
to make alternate arrangements to accomplish this important task.
Lastly, he is
one of our best docents. Bob provides accurate and interesting
historical information about Pemaquid Point and other lighthouses to

who are waiting
their turn to climb the tower, and is always friendly.
His efforts
play a huge role in our chapter’s ability to safely open up the lighthouse
to the public seven days a week, starting right before Memorial Day through
mid-October. Bob’s reliability and dedication should be applauded!”
