ALF Looks to Work Together
With Town of Bristol at
Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

In lighthouse
preservation, there are no two projects in America that are quite the
same. Each one possesses its own unique circumstances, challenges and
rewards. In light of these unique complexities, teamwork remains the
best approach to ensure that we save our historic lighthouses in the
most effective and timely manner possible.
The American
Lighthouse Foundation’s (ALF) vested interest as stewards of the
historic Pemaquid Point Light in Bristol, Maine, and experts in the
field of lighthouse preservation, is a perfect example of how working

together with
others can make all the difference. With the historic lighthouse situated
within the Pemaquid Point Park, which is owned and operated by the Town of
Bristol’s Parks & Recreation Department, ensuring that a fine working
relationship exists between ALF and the town only makes perfect sense – both
for the light tower itself and in the spirit of community camaraderie.

of both worlds –
the gorgeous grounds that encompass the location where the lighthouse is
situated within the park and the timeless value and heritage of Pemaquid
Point Lighthouse itself.
Just as
importantly, the project represents a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate
to the public how effectively a nonprofit like the American Lighthouse
Foundation and its chapter the Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse can work
with a municipality like the Town of Bristol, and in turn, set the standard
of excellence for similar efforts around the country in lighthouse
preservation. “We are proud to have such a dedicated and passionate group of
volunteers comprised of local people in the town who care about the
preservation of their lighthouse and its accessibility to the general public
for educational and cultural purposes,” says Tim Harrison, president of the
American Lighthouse Foundation.
