The dedicated work of modern day “keepers” has restored
the sparkling elegance to the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, giving its
caretakers and friends great cause to celebrate.
On September 25, 2007 the American Lighthouse Foundation
and its local chapter, Friends of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, held a

throughout the ceremony as the American Lighthouse
Foundation took the opportunity to publicly thank all of its partners
that were involved in the team effort to return the “shine” to this
cherished Midcoast jewel.
At the top of the list of partners was the Lowe’s
Charitable and Educational Foundation and the National Trust for
Historic Preservation. The American Lighthouse Foundation received a
$50,000 grant from Lowe’s via the National Trust to assist in funding
the much needed restoration work to Pemaquid Point Lighthouse in summer
2007.

During her remarks, Mrs. Baldacci noted how she has “seen firsthand the many
ways public and private partnerships can positively impact communities”
through her own efforts with projects like Habitat for Humanity’s Women
Build Program in conjunction with Lowe’s, and the First Families Building
Homes Across America program that she co-chairs with North Dakota’s
First Lady Mikey Hoeven.
Maine’s First Lady went on to say, “The renewal of the Pemaquid Point
Lighthouse was made possible through this kind of collaboration, with the |

former glory.
Trapani also noted that the restoration of Pemaquid Point Lighthouse would
not have been possible without the seamless teamwork between ALF and J.B.
Leslie Masonry Company, and the United States Coast Guard, Maine Historic
Preservation Commission and Building Conservation Associates of Dedham,
Massachusetts. By working together, the partnership ensured that Pemaquid
Point Lighthouse was restored in full accordance with the Secretary of the
Interior’s Standards for Preservation.
In addition to Maine’s First Lady Karen Baldacci, other distinguished guests
who spoke during the ribbon cutting ceremony included Roberta |

“Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is an
iconic image of Maine’s majestic coastline and it’s important that as we
move forward as a state and a country that we preserve the history that has
made us who we are,” said Mrs. Baldacci. “This lighthouse is an important
piece of Maine’s history and is an enduring symbol of our way of life.”
Maine’s First Lady concluded the ceremony, saying, “On behalf of the people
of Maine, I’d like to thank the American Lighthouse Foundation, the National
Trust for Historic Preservation and Lowe’s, as well as everyone who
contributed their time and energy to ensure that the Pemaquid Point
Lighthouse is restored in tribute to her many years of lighting our coast
and guiding our ships to safe harbor.”

“FPPL raised $46,000 over the past
three years – one donation at a time from visitors and friends in
amounts ranging from ten cents to one thousand dollars. Now that the
lighthouse has been restored, it gives me great satisfaction to know
that it’s a legacy that will be here when I’m gone.”
