Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse to
Report on Restoration Work
East Providence, RI: A general meeting of the Friends of
Pomham Rocks Lighthouse will be held on Tuesday,
September 20, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
in the All Purpose Room at Oldham School in Riverside. The meeting is open
to the general public.
Keith Lescarbeau, of Abcore Restoration, will give a report
on the progress of his company’s activities on the 134 year old lighthouse
off the East Providence coast. The exterior restoration work began this
summer and is expected to be completed in late fall of this year. In
addition to Mr. Lescarbeau’s presentation, an update on other activities of
the organization will be discussed.
The Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, a chapter of the
American Lighthouse Foundation, was formed in December 2005 to promote
awareness of this historic structure in the community and to raise funds for
the restoration work.
Charter memberships in the Friends of
Pomham Rocks Lighthouse are currently being offered until October 1, 2005.
Members who join the organization by this date will be recognized with a
charter member certificate. There are several membership levels beginning
with Individual Memberships for $25. Memberships received after October 1,
will not given the special “Charter Member” designation.
The organization will also be selling official Friends of
Pomham Rocks Lighthouse polo shirts, T-shirts, baseball caps and coffee mugs
at the meeting. Proceeds from the sale of these items supports their
operating costs and the restoration efforts. Donations and grants for the
restoration work are currently being sought and applied for on a regular
basis. An update on this activity will also be reported at the meeting.
