Message from Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse Chairman

Time moves on. Spring 2007 is a memory, summer is fleeting as we already see the slight hint of fall foliage color.

The Friends of Pomham Rocks have finally gotten a lawn mower and weed whacker to the island along with sporadic cutting and trimming of the grounds to keep grass and brush from

overtaking the property. Access to the island remains limited and so our visits are strictly low-key.

Preliminary discussions by your board have begun to consider the possible restoration of the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse pier.

Also, to assure you, a portion of your funds is allocated in our yearly budget to upkeep the lighthouse structures. Professional inspection and preventive maintenance is conducted twice yearly.

There has also been an attempt by our Pomham Events committee to involve our members and friends in social/fund raising activities as evidenced by the June clambake ($1700 for the cause), the upcoming October dinner cruise and an ongoing companion public lecture series with the cooperation of the Riverside Public Library. The theme being related lighthouse/maritime subject matter.

Dave Kelleher and myself have been involved with lighthouse themed sunset and all-day narrated program cruises aboard the Save The Bay

vessel, the Aletta Morris. Pomham Rocks Lighthouse is showcased as we "bridge build" and earn some income for our FPRL restoration project.

There are rumors about the development of a Pomham Rocks Lighthouse cookbook sometime next year.  We'll need favorite member recipes. Some

folks have expressed the desire for a FPRL family pot luck Christmas gathering. Location needed. Some, a Pomham member cookout somewhere in Riverside by the Bay next year, as well. These could be annual events.

Your Board is asking your help to make programming and gatherings of this type an actual reality and success. Please involve yourselves for the good of the cause, fun and a beautiful lighthouse in your neighborhood. Thank you for all you do.

Respectfully,

Don Doucette, Chairperson
