FPHL Enjoy a Very Successful First Open House of the Season

The Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse (FPHL), a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, hosted their first open house of the 2006 season on May 28th, greeting 257 eager visitors seeking to climb the historic tower and take in the breathtaking views afforded by the light’s lofty perch over the entrance to the

Piscataqua River. FPHL volunteers were more than delighted to explain to visitors about the light station’s rich history, as well as touch on the present day efforts of the chapter to preserve the 1878 beacon for future generations.

Jeremy D’Entremont, president of the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, was quite happy with the kick-off of the season, saying, “I

felt that the open house was a perfect launch for our 2006 season. We had a great turnout, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.” D’Entremont went on to compliment his dedicated volunteers who make such open house opportunities possible by noting, “I was pleased that we were able to keep the traffic flowing

pretty well, and the line never got too long. It was nice to see our regular volunteers again, along with the addition of some new faces. Most importantly, we gave our visitors a pleasant time, and hopefully they learned something about lighthouse history and preservation along the way.”
