ALF Honors FPHL Volunteer Ross Tracy at
Awards Dinner
|
|
| |
| On April 1, 2006 the American Lighthouse
Foundation (ALF) hosted a volunteer awards dinner at Jonathan’s
Restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, to recognize some of the organization’s
most dedicated volunteers to lighthouse preservation and education. In
all, 19 individuals from nine ALF chapters received the Len Hadley

their commitment
to volunteer lighthouse work during the calendar year of 2005.
The Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, a chapter of the American
Lighthouse Foundation, nominated one of their hardest workers in Ross Tracy
to receive the Len Hadley Volunteerism Award at the April 1st
dinner event. Chapter president Jeremy D’Entremont introduced Ross to the
audience and went on to recount some of his many contributions to the
Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Light. D’Entremont noted, “Ross Tracy has been
one of our most valuable, hard working, and efficient volunteers. He's been
our chapter's membership chair for two years, keeping the records organized
and communications running smoothly.”
D’Entremont went on to say, “Last spring and again this year, he's in charge
of the painting we're doing in the interior of the lighthouse, and has
supervised the volunteers doing that work. Ross is an accomplished |

photographer, and he's donated many beautiful prints to
our chapter and to the Lighthouse Kids for use in fundraising. He's
consistently volunteered at our open houses, cruises, and other events.
He enjoys greeting people at our open houses and has been a great
ambassador for FPHL and ALF. And best of all, he's done all this with
an upbeat attitude and a great sense of humor.”
“Ross Tracy is the kind of volunteer any organization
would love to have,” said ALF executive director Bob Trapani, Jr. “His

maintenance, is not commonly found. Ross has demonstrated time and again his
dedication to the FPHL & ALF. Whether standing outside all day in the
oppressive heat of summer to greet visitors, painting the interior of
Portsmouth Harbor’s lantern under stifling conditions or helping explain the
history of the lighthouse during a holiday open house as December’s icy
winds vanquished any traces of heat from inside the tower, Ross stands firm
and committed to the lighthouse cause.”
In addition to helping present the ALF volunteer award to Ross Tracy,
D’Entremont pointed out that other individuals like Sharon Mills and Paul
Conlin – both present at the dinner, were also key contributors to the
ongoing success of the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse.
Timothy Harrison, president of the American Lighthouse Foundation, expressed
his admiration for the contributions of the volunteers like Ross |

heritage – all because of individuals who believe in our mission and are
willing to freely volunteer of their time to build a stronger organization.”
The Len Hadley Volunteerism Award was named after Len Hadley, one of
the original cofounders of the American Lighthouse Foundation. “Len Hadley
was one of the hardest working volunteers any organization could possibly
have,” said Timothy Harrison, president of the American Lighthouse
Foundation. He went on to say, “When Len passed away in October 2000, the
ALF board of directors decided to name an award after him and what he stood
for.”
