Friends of Portsmouth Light Volunteers Enjoy
a Picture-Perfect Day
|
|
| |
| The year 2005 has been a very successful
experience for the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Light (FPHL). In
addition to a record number of visitors that have enjoyed the scheduled
open houses at Portsmouth Harbor Light, the chapter has also sponsored
lighthouse cruises and special programs with similar success – all to |

help with the preservation of the 1878 historic sentinel. None of
these accomplishments would have been possible if not for the commitment and
dedication demonstrated time and again by the FPHL volunteers.
As a sincere gesture of appreciation for their contributions of time, effort
– and money too, the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Light hosted a picnic for
its volunteers on September 10, 2005 at the U.S. Coast Guard Station,
adjacent to their beloved lighthouse. The picture-perfect day was a superb
compliment to good food and friends.
“I think it's important that volunteers get something out of their
participation, in addition to the satisfaction they get from giving the |

Harbor president Jeremy D’Entremont. “I am very appreciative of the fact
that our volunteers give up some of their summer Sundays to help out at
the lighthouse.”

lighthouse, things
are fairly hectic and there's a good deal of pressure on the volunteers to
keep things moving. I thought it would be nice for our people to have a
chance to relax at the site and just enjoy themselves. I think things like
this can help keep up the morale of volunteers, which in turn, of course,
helps the lighthouse. Events like this also help foster camaraderie among
volunteers and give people a chance to get to know each other a bit better.”
”I should also
mention that the University of New Hampshire owns the picnic area, and it
was very gracious of them to allow us to use it,” says D’Entremont. “The
Coast Guard was also very cooperative with our plans for the picnic.”
