When I took
the photos, the winds were probably gusting over 50 mph and it was
raining in sheets. I was sitting in my car, pulled right up to the
shore at Great Island Common in New Castle, NH, inside the mouth of the
Piscataqua River. I was there for about a half-hour on either side of
high tide; the seas

were churned up and breakers were
hitting the shore at the park, which is very unusual. I shot with a 300mm
lens on my Canon Digital Rebel from inside the car. Even with the window
cranked down just a few inches, the

spray and rain were flying in and I had
to wipe the lens at least once a minute. It was extremely difficult to
hold the shot steady, between the long lens and the fact that my car was
rocking from the wind. I gave up after a while as the rain came down
heavier and visibility dwindled. I'm happy to have gotten a
few halfway decent
shots, but even if I hadn't, it was worth the effort to see the spectacular
show put on by nature. -
