The
artists’ participation in the day long event culminated in a live auction.
Charlie Crane, auctioneer, encouraged the crowd of over two hundred and
fifty people, to part with their money for fantastic paintings and the cause
of restoring the historic lighthouse.
The
proceeds from the event total just over $ 30,000. A portion of that money
goes to the artists, but the majority of the money will be used to begin to
restore the interior tower structure. FOWIL need to raise over $400,000
dollars to complete the restoration project.
The
chair person for the Fresh Paint Day event, Caryn Firebaugh, commented “the
success of the event is due to the strong community backing for this worthy
cause.” This year the event included a cross section of the regional area,
as buyers as well as sponsors, reflecting a diverse group of people willing
to assist in the undertaking of the restoration of this historic building by
the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse.
