Wood Island Lighthouse Hosts Wedding

A special event took place this summer which was not only beautiful and exciting but it also continues to benefit Wood Island Lighthouse.  This event was the wedding of Wood Island Keeper Cliff Trebilcock to Linda Doughty on Wood Island right in front of the Lighthouse. The Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse were very happy to help this dream to come true for such a special couple. Cliff kept the light on Wood Island in the early

1970s and Linda is a staunch lighthouse lover, in fact their mutual connection to lighthouses is what brought Linda and Cliff together.

Captain Bob Orcutt brought the couple and a small group of their family and friends to Wood Island aboard Lightrunner on a beautiful August day. Lightrunner was all decked out it wedding regalia. The good ship Peagreen, belonging to Mal and Shirley Stallings, filled with well-wishers accompanied the “wedding boat” all the way to Wood Island providing excitement with horns, bells and flares. Now it was up to the bride and groom to navigate the ˝ mile wooden boardwalk in their wedding garb. Linda’s beautiful long Victorian style dress made the trip interesting to

say the least. Cliff wore a replica US Lighthouse Service Keeper’s uniform, which they had made for the occasion - A dashing couple and special friends to Wood Island Light.  They returned to the mainland as Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Trebilcock.

The wedding continues to help F.O.W.I.L. out with its educational program because  Cliff comes to the island in his USLHS Keeper’s uniform when a special splash is needed for an event and Linda has joined Cliff in participating in many work days as well as educational events. We thank this couple for their love of Wood Island Lighthouse.
