Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse – Capture the Coast

 July 13, 2008   4-7pm

Capture the Coast; FOWIL’s summer fundraiser will take place on July 13th (4-7 p.m.) at the historic Nonantum Inn in Kennebunkport. Each of 60 artists will be donating one painting done within several weeks of the event using the coast from Prout’s Neck to Wells as their subject.

We anticipate drawing our 60 artists from the group, which has already received invitations. These artists have already demonstrated contributions to FOWIL in one way or another but mainly through participation in past Fresh Paint Events. However, if other artists hear about Capture the Coast and are interested in finding out about it, they should contact me at sheri@woodislandlighthouse.org.

We will be able to receive only 200 guests and know they will have a wonderful opportunity to see and bid on some exceptional artwork. We are particularly excited about the participation of artist Robert Paine – his work hangs in the White House!

50% of the winning bids will go to the artist and 50% will go to FOWIL. 15 paintings will be in our live auction and the remaining will participate in an active silent auction.

We have collaborated with Southern Maine Medical to create the possibility for them to own one or several original paintings for their beautiful new Barbara Bush Pavilion emergency facility.  The way this will work is that there will be several “donor bidders” who will be in the audience. If they win the bid for a painting, that painting will go to the hospital.  The art coordinator for the hospital will visit Capture the Coast before the auctions begin in order to pick out desired works.

Nonantum waiters will be passing their wonderful hors’douvres and a cash bar will be available. Reservations are required at $25 per guest. Our volunteer will be ready in June to receive reservations. Her number will be available on our website or e-mail sheri@woodislandlighthouse.org for the number. If someone wishes to receive an invitation – please let me know.

Regards,

Sheri Emley-Poftak, coordinator
