Graphic Artist Donates Large Print to Help
Lighthouse Museum and Rockland’s Iconic Lighthouse
When the subject of beautiful lighthouses and artistic
talent meet in an inspirational moment, the results can be quite
stunning. Such is the case with a new rendition of Maine’s Rockland
Breakwater Lighthouse by graphic artist Alan Claude of Farmingdale, ME.
Alan Claude, partner and creative director for the
company ACES Design and graphic artist for twelve years, has donated a
large “Grand View” 36” x 53” glicée print of the Rockland Breakwater
Lighthouse in the hopes of raising funds for both the Maine

glicée print of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, which he has donated
to help raise funds for the Maine Lighthouse Museum and Rockland

Lighthouse Museum and The Friends of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, a
chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation.
The print ‘Rockland Breakwater Light’ is one of six travelogue posters of
‘The Maine Lighthouse Collection Series’ Claude released last summer.
A framed sample of the artwork is now on display inside the Maine Lighthouse
Museum’s Maine Discovery Center lobby at One Park Drive in Rockland.
“Its really an honor to have my art work displayed inside the Maine
Discovery Center and to have the potential to financially help the museum
and the lighthouse with the $5 raffle” says Alan Claude. In addition, $75
gift certificates for 2nd and 3rd place are good for a smaller
18”x 24” signed print that is also part of the raffle.
Claude will produce only fifty “Grand View” glicée (pronounced "zhee-clay")
prints of the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse this year. The glicée prints
are on acid-free watercolor paper and are signed and numbered along with a
“2008” year marking. The glicée print offered in the raffle is number eleven
of fifty and normally sells on his website for $855.00.
“I hope people enter the raffle and support the museum and lighthouse,” said
Claude. “The Maine Lighthouse Museum is in need of the community’s financial
support to help continue to conserve the nation’s largest collection of
Fresnel lenses and lighthouse artifacts, while the Rockland Breakwater
Lighthouse is seeking to raise $20,000 to repair their storm-damaged
boathouse.”
Displaying a full color spectrum, giclée prints have a higher resolution
than other forms of printing including serigraphs and have gained wide
acceptance among artists and galleries. The $5 raffle drawing will take
place on Columbus day weekend Saturday October 11th at eleven
a.m. The winner need not be present and will be notified by mail and
telephone. Shipping of the giclée will be included in the $5 fee of the
raffle.
The goal of the fundraising raffle is to raise $10,000 for the Maine
Lighthouse Museum and the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse.
“Alan Claude’s generous donation of a ‘Grand View’ glicée of Rockland
Breakwater Lighthouse is a wonderful fundraising opportunity for two of
Midcoast Maine’s most cherished treasures,” said Bob Trapani, Jr., director
for the Maine Lighthouse Museum and executive director for the American
Lighthouse Foundation. “The eventual winner of Claude’s artwork will take
home a terrific rendition of the iconic Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse that
is sure to be an admired conversation piece for family and friends alike.”
Alan Claude’s “Rockland Breakwater Light “ art is also gracing the cover of
the 2008 Penobscot Chamber of Commerce magazine. His Maine Lighthouse
Collection Series prints are at the museum gift store.
The ‘Grand View’ glicée of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse can
be viewed at the Maine Lighthouse Museum, which is located at One Park Dr,
Rockland, Wednesday through Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am
to 4:00 pm through Memorial Day and then daily during the summer. For more
