The new officers
are as follows: Dot Black, President, Jeremy D’Entremont, 1st
Vice-President, Jim Streeter, 2nd Vice-President, Alan Ells, Treasurer and
Paul Conlin, Secretary
Dot Black, known affectionately in lighthouse circles as “Mrs. Lighthouse,”
becomes just the second person in the organization’s thirteen-year history
to serve as president for the Rockland, Maine-based nonprofit. Mrs. Black
replaces Timothy Harrison, co-founder of the American Lighthouse Foundation
who served as president from 1994 to 2007.
ALF board member Tom Kenworthy chairman of the ALF nominating committee,
noted, “Over the last decade the American Lighthouse Foundation has
accomplished many good things for the lighthouse community and has helped to
bring the fight to save our beacons to the forefront of the general public.
This new election promises to bring about even more positive growth for our
organization.”
Kenworthy went on to say, “I am happy to be a part of this organization and
I look forward to working hard with ALF’s new leadership to accomplish what
needs to be done, not only in saving our lighthouses, but in making ALF the
premier lighthouse preservation organization in the nation!”
Fellow ALF board member Brad Coupe had the following to say in the wake of
the elections. “ALF’s dramatic growth and maturation in just the last 5
years has presented the organization with new financial and operational
challenges. We are now poised to build on our strengths, drawing our
leadership from within ALF’s twelve chapters throughout New England.”
Coupe went on to note, “Three of our new officers, Dot Black, Jeremy
D’Entremont and Jim Streeter, come to their new positions from ALF chapter
organizations. Our new President, Dot Black, has been a leader in the
lighthouse movement for over a decade and has shown by her great work at the
Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, how to build an organization and motivate
the community to support the cause of lighthouse preservation.”
Coupe concluded, “Vice President, Jeremy D’Entremont is well-known to the
lighthouse community. His national reputation as an historian and author,
and his role at the helm of the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse
(NH), adds unique depth and experience to the leadership team. Jim Streeter,
too, brings diverse organizational talents to the team as co-chairman of the
Avery Point Lighthouse Society (CT) and as a respected local government
leader in Groton, CT. Treasurer Alan Ells and Secretary Paul Conlin round
out the ALF officers and bring continuity from their previous service to the
organization in their respective capacities. I am excited about the new
energy and fresh perspective these leaders will bring to the board as they
work with their fellow directors and the organization’s staff to help move
ALF forward.”
