other restoration
projects and for support of the American Lighthouse Foundation’s
infrastructure, such as rent, utilities, insurance, etc. The access route
was closed because of nesting Piping Plovers, which are on now on the
endangered species list.
Although the Cape
Cod Chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation offered several solutions
to work around and still protect the endangered birds, government officials
rejected the ideas.
Since the income
from the overnight stays at Race Point has now been lost for over half of
the season, the American Lighthouse Foundation is urgently appealing for
donations to complete other lighthouse preservation projects that were
already started and to support the vital infrastructure that holds together
the entire organization.
